Passion upstages posing

TO THE casual observer, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder is a bit of a Bono figure: a great singer who is pompous and unbearably self-serious; an entertainer who needs no prompting to weigh in with his political views, and frequently does; a stadium rock star with messianic pretensions.
